My wife and I start projects/companies all the time because we both like making stuff. We are starting work on one seriously right now, her children's clothing company called Short.
I made a splash page with photos of all her items, and a link to an Etsy store for now to generate some income before launching a full clothing line. I'm going to start trying to promote all this soon, any one have any tips or general comments about our approach?

I really don't like the background. Would rather see it on white tbh.
I don't like that you have saved the images as gifs either. Obviously you've done this for the transparency - but you could have used png's...the gif quality is poor and you really want the clothes to stand out - because they are nice!
- yeah, png's looked like shit in IE so I sacrificed the image quality. The site is only temporary anyway, but thanks for the feedback.AbuseTheSystem

I like the clothing even though I do not have any kids, I don't think so anyway...
Why are you using Esty?
This kills the end-user experience, simply build a shopping cart and link it to Paypal. Here a re a couple free ecommerce shopping carts that you can build into you website.

- I would say etsy has a better rep than paypal does to be honest...jevad

cheap and good shopping cart (www.foxycart.com) - although i disagree with 3point. i see his point but i'm not convinced the end user would care less that they get shunted to etsy to buy. if anything etsy is building quite a reputable name and may improve sales because of the perceived safe online brand. i could be wrong.

Maybe I'm being daft but the name 'abuse the system' link seems weird on a kids clothing site.
- No, I was thinking that too actually...jevad
- personally i can't get enough links between abuse and kids. then again, i was an alter boy.airey
- Yeah ... abuse the system is my company in which we house all of our projects. Never really thought about it being on the site.AbuseTheSystem

children clothing is the strongest industry amongst all within fashion apparel. children grow out of their clothing so fast parents constantly have to purchase new items for their kids. its the fastest growing market out there ever.
good luck [you wont need much]
:)
- is that a fact or a truth you invented in your head that just kinda makes sense?airey
- Well, it's his industry so I would believe him.Jnr_Madison
- and? people always say that but the amount of home-truths shared as fact in any industry is funny.airey
- i'm not having a go, just interested in figures as one of my clients sells kids clothes also onlineairey
- airey, i design for the kids industry. the kids industry is stronger than anything.e-pill
- can you link me stats pls? i'd love to fire them through to my client as it would help push some new promo stuff!airey
