a recent convert to a macbook pro I have always used gmail so i can access mail anywhere. No I'm thinking perhaps I should try mail app / google desktop. Does anyone have advice over which is best or should I just stick with gmail? Mail app any good?

mail is good and you can link your gmail up to it so it's all handled in one app

For a truly great Mac Gmail application, check out Mailplane:

If you have an IMAP email account (not POP), then you will be able to use any computer that you have Mail installed on to access your mail with the same view on each computer (server keeps them all in synch), plus you will usually get webmail access on IMAP accounts.

I just have my all my email accounts including gmail send and recieve via OS X Mail. Simple easy and works great.
I don't understand why use all these 3rd party apps in between.
