I hate address books.

I was just wondering if anyone had any input as to the way that address books were designed. I was drafting an intranet build and just couldn't get comfortable with the way that they are done nowadays. It just seems so remarkably inefficient from a design perspective.
For instance, why does every address book have a list? Why not just a search function? I figure people know who they want to find by name or company.
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts.

I just wish everyone wasn't so used to seeing a list all the time. :/
- Sometimes you can't remember the name, but looking at the list jogs yer memory. "Oh yeah, Katia!"boobs

yeah, address book always felt clunky to me too. there's something about how it forces you to fill in fields.... it's always just seemed tedious (though i reluctantly do it for obvious reasons).
