What's the point of buying Office for Mac? OSX comes with a mail client that's more than adequate. The only thing I see lacking is a decent word processor. Why not just download Open Office?

i agree.... but have no clue why you compare a word processing app to Mail? regardless, I love OOffice, but if you have the inclination, Pages is a farking killer app to use. makes the whole mess much better to deal with.

Because it's the most popular one, which could lead to less hassle down the road.
I have iWork, but I wouldn't mind Office either.

Client compatibility can be an issue for me sometimes. Most of them have Office.

To be honest, Pages can be very frustrating at times. I use it occasionally, but I seem to have some issues. I think it's just happening to me. These problems include:
I hate how, when you have a paragraph of text, it will automatically push the table down a page, so that the entire table fits onto one page. However, the text is still on the first page, and it's an entire ordeal just to somehow move that table back up. Another thing is that, for some reason, if I have paragraphs of text or a table that is supposed to span many pages, the pages after the 1st page will not appear correctly. Sometimes they don't appear at all. It's as if though the blank page is ON TOP of the text (like layers) after the first page. WTF.
It's probably just my version, but I usually give up and use TextEdit or OmniOutliner instead.

iWork is nicer than Microsoft Office, but yeah, i find Neo Office for mac works perfectly fine for doing all that boring spreadsheet letter power point crap...
