I think my laptop is going to die anyday so ive been looking for a new one.
Ableton Live 6.0.1 is running on it with Win XP
Anyone know if 6.0.1 will run on Vista?
Failing that ive got a XP install original disk.

Yep run's fine for me. What VST's you got? You could have some issues with drivers ect. But when you get Vista remember to download SP1 from the MS site.

Ive got the Korg Legacy Collection, Rob Papen Predator and allsorts of others.
I guess I could just get myself a new laptop and see how ableton fares on Vista with all the plugins etc. Some of the REALLY old vst's are from Cubase use on Win98! lol and most of them work ok on XP with Ableton.
Then if all doesnt work then il just install the XP system
Do use the built-in soundcard?
I've always used a cardbus one on my XP laptop.
But the small laptops ive been looking at dont have 54mm cardbus slots GRR! so wont be able to use my e-mu card and breakout box.

You should be fine 23kon, Vista works better now IMO but still have issues at times but nothing major, but make sure you get SP1 - Tons of bugs fixed. I used to have the Creative Labs Audigy 2 Platinum EX on my laptop that worked like a dream with KORG as well.
Vista will detect your built-in sound card but you can always uninstall it so you don't have any conflicts with your external sound card.
What was the link to your music site again? You posted it sometime back and never bookmarked it :(

For what I understand (I'm a mac user)
Ableton runs better on XP (better than vista or osx)also, get one of those FW800 sound cards, that should speed it up a lot.

Meeklo is right, Ableton was originally developed, obviously, for the PC, there are far more users and the Germans that developed that aren't stupid. That's a brilliant program.

Cheers for the advice people.
I'm just going to keep hunting and see what i can get laptopwiseFlatmate has a copy of XP on disc so if i get a vista machine and i run into problems i can just wipe it and install XP.
Alternatively I could bite the bullet and buy Ableton Live 7.
Or be bad and find a torrent (that doesnt download a friggin 450MB virus!)

i'd stick to XP on your audio machine. i'm running it and it's rock solid on my DAW.
