@SteveJobs;
Isn't piracy a part of Adobe's way of spreading it's name and software? A lot of students use pirated software such as that of Adobe (or use it a lot at schools) in order to train themselves. And hardly any printer nowadays takes analog work to press - or am I wrong in that? I would say it's a tactical decision for Adobe to allow *some* pirating as people will get used to it sooner and will - later on when they're forced to buy it - choose it again.

What about Word and Powerpoint? What else do you need?

don't hate the player, hate the game.

It's all in our hands. We could free ourselves if we chose, but instead we choose slavery.

if MS expressions didn't suck (or cost money) I'd use it

eating_tv, yes that's correct - and the only pirates they will go after are corporations.
remember the old hack to crack ps3? removing that .sif file? they should have named it DeleteThisForIndefiniteTrial.sif

^^^ lol no I didn't know that, I haven't been around -that- long. To be honoust I know of nothing better than what Adobe offers now. I do think that CS3 for one, is a package which can last longer than a year in use. CS4's been developed in quite a short time in my humble opinion. Still, it's the best. And I like the stability and the user friendliness of it all. However, I wonder if an epic clash between Adobe and Brand X would be good for the development of new tools? New techniques and improvements to the design industry and all of it's specialisations?

Probably true, unfortunately no one is really positioned to do that except MSFT.

By the way, buying the Master Collection boxed is €3,568.81, but download it is more expensive: € 3,628.79
Why?

a monopoly aint great but i still don't understand people's comments about the pricing. it's simply not that expensive. try running any other sort of business and see the setup costs involved there. basically if you want to freelance or sole trade you can buy a mac and all the software for print and web and have change from 5k. you could then not upgrade for 3-4 years fairly comfortably depending on your situation. if this is a cost you think is too high then you need to look at a different career or simply go work for someone else.

It is definitely true that we are not seeing a huge added benefit with each update. I am using CS4 and there are some things I like, some things that seem a bit clunky, but overall, it feels more like a wash than a big leap forward. No big improvement or change in performance and functionality.
Interesting that most of the real advances with Flash have come on the open source end of things. And many people have now switched to something like Flash Develop to create their Flash and have dropped the Adobe app entirely.

I would be happy there is a monopoly. Imagine if every job you had to learn a new piece of software. And of course some companies would have the super ass cheap software like ms paint and others would have high end. That would be horrible. I am glad adobe has standardized everything. I hope quark gets phased out.
