how is it this time of year? i'm considering a south west driving tour beginning early next week and am prepared to experience some cold and rainy weather but is it too much for a first time visitor?

ok in light of your actually being on this side of the pond may I extend my gravest apologies for the shower curtain remark and any emotional distress it may have caused and wish you a very happy and fulfilling sojourn in our fine, em, continental mass.

You should wait some months.. February or so. Right now there is no sun, just a couple of hours. I would recommend to drive east to west (south). Reykjavik - Hofn (sleep) Hofn - Reyjvavik. Oh, and don't ever miss going to the blue lagoon spa :)
