Wow, fantastic to get such feedback and an honour to be chosen as Editors choice — totally unexpected. We haven't actually publicised this site (other than informing those who had requested e-updates when it was live) so to get this response so quickly is flattering to say the least! You know how these things tend to spread like a forest fire across the design community...
The whole point of Design Assembly is to not just do another blog, but to get some sort of opinion and commentary on the work out there — an open invitation for criticism but, if you read the first posting I've written, a welcome one. Stick with us, there's more interesting posts to come, just didn't want to snow blind people from the offset. Tom's article alone is enough to set the tone for the project, hope you enjoy.

i feel bad now
- Not at all, thanks for having an opinion, 'tis becomming a rariety! Hpeflly we can live up to some of the hype and do something that gets people talking about what we all feel most passionate about (football aside)!DesignJudge

Is this Design Observer for young people?
- Sort of — we love what DO does but felt like there was a generation gap that maybe we could (and should) fillDesignJudge

Its good to read that you guys havent launched fully yet and have been pimping something that hasnt really got much on it.
Andreas needs a smacked bum for leaking it out.Look forward to seeing what the site turns out like and if you's will live up to being more than just another blog site. The fact that you's are young and new graduates should hopefully bring something fresh and new to the table.
- Not at all, very grateful to Andreas for giving us a mention. Am a big fan of the site so pleased to be 'newsworthy'!DesignJudge

They all have the same fuckin content.
- Have you read the opening article? More articles to come over the next couple of days, hopefully you'll see we're not about recycling content...DesignJudge

good idea - shame it looks just a bit to much like build's blog.

I look forward to seeing if you can bring something new to the crowded design blogosphere....and allowing comments is commendable, not many of your competitors do that..... but...
"The whole point of Design Assembly is to not just do another blog"
It's a shame it looks like just another blog then, couldn't you have pushed the envelope a bit more in terms of presentation?
The design also suffers the usual problems of websites designed by print designers, who put aesthetics ahead of usability:
– hard to read text
– no indication of what is a link and what isn't
– custom ui elements for no particular reason (you've totally broken the submit button, it doesn't even have a rollover state)- Reply below.
In terms of usability adjustments are being made, like I said we didn't expect to get it right the first time. We are at least trying...DesignJudge - ...we are at least trying (in case that last bit was lost).DesignJudge

Me again, just a couple of things:
mistermik: 'good idea - shame it looks just a bit to much like build's blog' — this project has been in development in our spare time for almost 5 months. Build's blog launched less than 2 weeks before ours and I actually felt there as enough of a point of difference between the two for that not to be an issue. The similarities being we both use Georgia?? Please...ihavenomouth: 'It's a shame it looks like just another blog then, couldn't you have pushed the envelope a bit more in terms of presentation?' As you will have discovered (from my article) we are all designers working full-time within studios. This project HAS to take place in our own time with strict practical constraints in terms of programming and budget. In an ideal world we may well have 'pushed the envelope' a little more, but unfortunately that wasn't an option.
There are of course other advantages of using a traditional template, one being it's familiarity — by working with WordPress in the way we have the audience can concentrate on the content instead of being distracted by an unfamiliar layout/design.
I would say however this is Version 1.0 — who knows how the site will evolve (some tweaks in terms of usability are already taking place). Once again, thank you for your time and comments.

It's just launched and rather than being "Look at this nice poster" the critical comment and digging further will make it. Lots of the usual QBN comments on here, please give things a little time and stop being so quick to dismiss. People will put a lot of time into the writing of articles on here rather than quick fire posts. It's an undertaking on the people who made it and the people's posting time.
