you know, i had high hopes for windows 7. and it looks to be another year or two that i'll be sticking with windows xp.
my new hope is that people yell and scream and tell ms that even if you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig... uh.. hehe.. hmmm...
do your humanitarian duty and vote NO on 7!
- Lol, Steve Jobs using Windows XP, somehow I can't see that happening.Nightshade

it sucks that if we dont' want to use a mac we're stuck to a OS that's nearly 10 years old.
fuck.
- it works well enough... so what's the difference?7point34
- uhh, it could be better? way better? and look better? and use less resources... for instance.anxiousarms
- true, but i know when i install something i can find the app and get it to load... that's really all i need from an OS7point34

how many users actually want to touch their screens?
- kids and rich people who want "that hot shit yo"anxiousarms

I've owned an iPhone for almost a year. A few weeks ago I touched my TV screen in order to press a button on a DVD menu.
It was strange.. In the split second, as my finger went towards the screen I instantly knew it wouldn't work. But I didn't stop, had to touch it.
It just felt right.

It's natural to want to touch things with your hand, rather than this little plastic thing to move a cursor...
I just don't have much trust in Windows anymore... when they can make an OS that doesn't puke every week or so, then I'll try it out. Maybe just make a demo video where they can re-size the photo easily?
- it's not as bad as the demo of their voice-recognition technology - that was painful to watch..SteveJobs

" It's natural to want to touch things with your hand, rather than this little plastic thing to move a cursor..."
really? do you really want to design with your finger? how intricate could you possibly get that way?
this is MOST DEF a gimmick to sell computers to fucking morons.
- Why do you think we have digital pens? It's natural for humans to use their hands to move stuff...not to designSigDesign

i propose two versions of windows:
Windows XP Ultimate - which essentially is XP with all the service packs and perhaps support for skinning.
and
Windows Ha HA - Microsofts cutting edge OS that attempts to deliver everthing that they understand nothing about - like OS X, for instance.
- that's why you're steve jobs man... always thinking.anxiousarms

This seems fitting:

No this is much worse, I can appreciate voice rec problems, everyone has slightly different accents its a nightmare to get it working for everyone.
However everyone touches the same, dragging is nothing new, multitouch dragging is nothing new since apple nailed it perfectly with the iPhone, now why is a company as large as MS having trouble even demoing it?another feature to sit next to stupid shit like those laptops where the entire screen twists round so its a clunky tablet

looks ok, multitouch looks unresponsive...
this is what I thought Leopard was going to be... and...
finally, uhh yeah...

frankly, touch screens have been in every restaurant from McDonalds to the Outback for AT LEAST 10 years. this is not new tech. it's fluff to sell shit machines.

Looks cool

To me it looks really similar to Vista but with alot of new features including the touch ability.

Touch screen has been around for years, it seems that Microsoft just want to push it now because people think the touch screen iPhone is cool. The thing is, on a mobile phone it is cool, because it does away with the need for a keypad or joystick. But on a computer, you will always need a keyboard for typing fast, and a mouse for precise drawing. I don't see that touch screen adds anything. It's been available for years, if it was so good or useful, wouldn't I be typing this by touching my monitor right now?
Also, now did I miss something, but aside from touch screen, what are the advantages of Windows 7?!
- oh wait, i've just seen the video above. wow, they have an OS X dock now.Nightshade

A lot of people don't realize how brilliant of Apple it was to make iPhones operable by your fingers, but not a stylus.
It might seem just a small technicality, but it brings interactivity to a deeper level of biofeedback.
With physics added to interface animation to amplify the effect (deaccellerating tweens in scrolling elements) you don't feel you touch the glass with a stick anymore. You make things happen onscreen.
There are a lot of gimmicks around, but upcoming proliferation of touchscreens marks a new era in human-machine interaction.

I can understand that touching you monitor is annoying for involved tasks, but as multi touch technology gets better and cheaper don't you think we'll find better ways to work with it. For instance use a separate tablet that mirrors your monitor, similar to a wacom to manipulate your files. Besides they aren't getting rid of the mouse just adding another way to interact.

mouse + keyboard = works fine. No need what so fucking ever for a touch screen pc. You arm would get a cramp after a while plus the most obvious part: the screen will be filthy. The iphone is great, I love it. A touch screen at the ATM is great too.
As far as windows 7. It looks like Vista pt. 2. Shitty. Just make XP run 8 gigs of RAM and I'll be happy. Why doesn't microsoft just take XP and make it better. That's what everyone wants anyways. Morons.
