my modeling skills have deteriorated greatly. anybody know of any plugins (lightwave) that creates trees?

What level of detail?

xfrog (http://www.xfrogdownloads.com)
Haven't tried it, but its popular with the c4d heads... i know it supports all the 3d platforms though

what about sketchup or whatever it's called

You can get a 3d scanner and scan a tree...
you might have to chop it down first
not too clear on that

Llyod, just wait a few years — there'll be no trees left and then you won't have to worry about modelling them...

scotch tape one to your monitor? take a picture of that?
- Llyod0
I need a few abstracted trees, going to start off with some realistic models

Llyod, Do not kill any real trees in the production of cybertrees.
Consider this a warming.

just make a few different leaves, make a blob that looks like the shape of a tree, and then populate the blob with a particle system using the leaves as your target object. also, hide the original blob shape. It should be an option.

Does it have to be animated? And since your talking abstract: look into lofting with an animated spline and particle systems of animated branches spread along selected vertices of the loft (I'm into 3ds max, so dunno if lightwave can get the same results this way. For the texture you could use a noise displacement map icw a perlin wood noise diffuse ... but it al depends on the level of detail you want

there are plenty of objects in Bryce 3D. Yes, simple, but they'll do the trick

- Nice. That must be a Giant Sequoia.metal_leg_will

well, I´d simply convert one an asset CD into lightwave format. or go to turbosquid, and spend $3.50 on chinese quality geometry?
- Llyod0
have to say no to turbosquid. I need cartoon trees but I probably won't be able to modify any. my modeling skills are sagging.

you can always go generic, would be interesting to employ a particle system to generate the trees. could also benefit the style. or ruin it.
Is lightwave equipped with something similar to max´s particle flow?

Maya has some auto shapes. I remember trees and various foliage being a setting.

lw has all sorts of particle systems (the arrows from 300 were done with it). I'm going to go with generic primitives but when they're disturbed leaves rustle and fall off.

just bought these for a project, there were free ones on there as well...

how about building overly primitive trees and plants for the cartoon look? Like Pokoyo... http://pocoyo.blogs.com/ Simple, but stylish modeling.
