I'll be there in a few days. Any suggestions on what to do or where to go?
The only thing touristy I really want to do is go to Pearl Harbor.

Rent a scooter or moped. Drive around the island and sight see. Be friendly and chill with the locals, buy them a beer or twelve. Forget the touristy stuff. If you don't surf, learn how to.

and when they call you "haole" it's a term of endearment, ha.

I have tried surfing a few times in the Pacific northwest and didn't care for it at all. I'll be happy to try it again without freezing my ass off!

Here's my list so far...
Pearl Harbor ( my grandfather was there as a turret Capt on the USS Tennessee. He's one of the few living survivors)
A few cool bars I've found online The Loft & Thirty Nine Hotel.
A cool store called Split Obsession (vinyl toys and hipster wear)
And getting sunburnt as hell

Go to the Sharaton Moana hotel on Waikiki, sit and watch the sunset on the patio by the pool and have some Mai Tai drinks. AMAZING!!!
Also go to Germaine's Luau, really fun and great food, the drinks are kind of weak though.- is that the place that has the highest restaurant in wikkiki? you can see an amazing sunset from there.kona
- No, it is one of the original Hotels. It has been refurbished. My wife and I sat 10 feet from the Ocean, drinking STRONG Mai Tais while watching the Sun set. It was awesome!DCDesigns
- wait, the place with the amazing tree in the back courtyard where people can renew their vows? that place WAS amazing!kona

HNL Contemporary Art Museum usually has good stuff:
http://www.tcmhi.org/Lots of good hiking trails, if that's your thing.
Same with golf.My favorite public beach is Waimea, but there are many great smaller ones along the coast drive.
If you are there the first friday of the month, all the art galleries in China town have openings. It's a good vibe, and you can hit the bars down there like Loft or Indigo.
- fun to drive around there in a mini as well: http://www.littlehaw…Douglas

my wife and i were lucky enough to be there for a wedding dec 7th 2005 and i got the chance to meet quite a few survivors who were there for the event that day. it was pretty amazing hearing their stories and just shaking their hand and saying it was an honor to meet them. some of them, even in their old age still looked like major badasses. haha.

My grandpa didn't talk about it for decades. I think he's still a bit shaken up about it. Everyone in his Turret died except him. He wont participate in any reunions 'cause " why would I want to live in the past and conjure up those memories".
My cousins have finally started to record his stories from all the war not just Pearl Harbor and have started to write it all down.
He's in his early 90's and still very healthy and in-depended ( knocks on wood).- he's a very wise man! i bet he has some amazing stories.kona
