I also like this, old school style with modern day widgetry:

What I like about the forum here is that there are no separate categories for topics and you can see the topics while you're reading/posting.
And the smart-ass motherfuckers that hang around.
- Yeah. Especially that last part.TheBlueOne
- Yeah, no shit.boobs

I love http://tiddlywiki.com/ too. It can be used as a forum, even though it seems like it's a Wiki. It's easy, yet complex with any modifications you may make.
- I use tiddlywiki hosted on a USB drive to take notes and shit...my own personal wikiTheBlueOne
- Yeah, it's more of a Wiki. I somehow made it work as a forum...can't remember anymore.Jaline

Boobs - Vanilla has a similar layout in its native format. It has categories but you can simply not use them. I think it takes an easy-to-install plugin to show the topics while you're reading and posting. It DOESN'T auto-update that list in real-time, though. It's possible to write extensions to do shit like that.

And I've been keeping my eye on this little script as well - wiki/forum thing:
Very small scale, but looks neat.
