Never ever ever go with fasthosts.. nasty
1) if they bring out a rate for new customers you have to shut down entire server set up new account etc for that same level of service.
2) a few months back they changed everyones passwords to all databases and ftp access... and posted the new passwords which arrived about 5 days later. imagine the hassle when you have 10 clients moaning their sites are down.
3) if you cancel hosting they dont pay back the remaining money from time not used (dirty nasty fucking service)
4) you cant close the account unless you phone. and they put you in a cue for hours.
5) if you card details change rather than email you . they shut down your account and charge you £20 admin fee to set it back up.
so glad to have shed their crapulent service the sends shivers through every recess of my soul.

Hosting question
turns into
mediatemple vs. the rest of the countless options out there

mac vs. pc threads.

I would say the majority of people on here no longer use MT becasue of the poor experiences of late with them.
There are a gazillion hosts out there... just pick one ffs. I tend to use on local to me so I can knock on their door if all goes tits up.
1&1 seem to be popular though
- Hey, what kind of designer are you? Bet you don't even OWN a mac.

How old does a server have to be to not have PHP installed? A hundred years?

Im hosted at Namecheap, never really had a problem. I find MT lethargic, but that's perhaps because i'm in Europe.

I have never had a problem with MT - tech support great and pretty decent performance... (at least on a dv)

Ugh no (@ dreamhost). Rackspace can be kind of a nightmare too, their RHEL installs are kind of fucked. They have decent support and customer service though.
- what do you have against dreamhost? I've been with them for 4 years now with 2 domains and have never had a problem.doesnotexist
