no, its definitely cool.
The pedal I am thinking of emits a spectrum of light and when you move within the spectrum it changes the frequncies and modulation of the sound. I can't remember the name of the pedal for the life of me. I think Robert Fripp uses them a lot.

That is a resourceful young man. It reminds me of Steve Stevens' ray gun effect in his solo for "Rebel Yell." I love that solo.
