When did ""I don't know that" replace "I don't think" when explaining something? Is talking like this a way of shirking responsibility for opinion? Example:
"I don't know that we'll be able to meet the deadline given the situation."
vs
"I don't think we'll be able to meet the deadline given the situation."
Is it because knowing is more important than thinking? Does knowing imply you were informed by someone more important, and thinking is more opinion based? "Safe talk" makes me want to punch someone.

I don't know that would be such a good idea.

"To your point"
"Moving forward"I hate that kinda talk, and I hate this litigious, eggshell society we live in.

"Think" implies ownership, ego, and responsibility
"Know" implies passionless rationalism, certainties (sometimes in cases when there aren't certainties)People talk more and more like they are running a command line, and it becomes harder and harder to incite feeling. I think this kind of talk should be removed from creative discussion.

Really? I dunno, I think it's indicative of some awful bullshit lying subversively underneath the fabric of our everyday interactions in the office place.

Sometimes I want to interrupt the people on the conference call and be like "Really? REALLY? What do you know then? What do you know about anything? FUCK YOU."
Then run from the office and buy a sandwich and cry in the food court.

People are sheep. Most are afraid to speak forthrightly. Courage is becoming more and more rare.
