Any photographers out there using it? Any sites out there that compare? Livebooks seems a little pricey.

They aren't templates so maybe the price is warranted.

Hack photographers use LiveBooks
- I hate livebooks but I can't tell you how many decent photgraphers use it. Not just hacks.TResudek

I have been a LiveBooks customer for about 2 years now. I cannot think of any company that has created more grief and inconvenience for me. I am always having complications with email and they have even erased all of the text on my website at one point. Try your best to get someone on the telephone but you will most likely get an answering machine which will return your call... eventually. Send them an email and wait up to 4 hours or more for a response. Not fun waiting around for a return call or email when you have business to attend to, estimates and invoices to send and desperately NEED THE MONEY! If not for the 3+ weeks of building my site with resizing/ adjustments/ keywording etc. I would have dropped them a long time ago. I have recently heard about squarespace.com from another photographer and maybe they will be the answer for me.
I wish Livebooks would just get their act together and do a better job for me but for right now I'd have to say that I wouldn't recommend them to anyone (unless I hated them.) The employees are competent, courteous and eager to help but their dedication is not enough to keep me with such awful performance from the site itself and the aggravation that comes with it. Be warned.

a few years ago, Livebooks was considered a good thing among some photographers I knew, as the alternatives at the time were to contract with a custom web dev project, or use a rather lame template.
They're also a legacy flash shop.... they've rolled with the punches to non-flash layouts, but if I remember right, their back end admin interface is all flash (somebody correct me if it's changed?)
Now, there are a million templates, jQuery image galleries, and other clean and nice photo slideshow layouts that, with a bit of tweeking can be customized nicely, look good, and be hooked up to a small PHP/mySQL image management app... like I've done for a bunch of photographers....
Once upon a time, Livebooks charged $$$$$, now I have no idea how their business model deals with real competition....
