I have sorted hosting for basic sites before but what does one need to think about when hosting an e-commerce site.
Any advice would be helpfull, I have looked at the millions of packages on all the (so say) best hosting companies sites but don't really know what I need to have...

Well site traffic is one thing to consider, if its going to be hit pretty steady you might want to find a dependable host. My experience with larger projects is to go with a solid host. I've been through so many hosting companies but am now with Media Temple and love it.
Also when it comes to hosting your e-comm app, MT is quite flexible in terms of customization.
