I've been asked to look for uniforms to suit on-site IT technicians, a polo shirt or something else like that, all the techs complain about dress shirts. Anybody seen anything cool recently?

Also, if you had a computer tech coming to your business to fix your server/workstation, would you care if he wasn't in a dress shirt?

The boss wants to keep dress shirts, but I understand the argument of the techs... crawling under desks in the middle of summer in a dress shirt is just stupid.

What do you mean by 'dress shirt'? Do you mean a shirt? And do they have to wear a tie? A shirt without a tie is just a comfortable as a polo shirt...

    dress shirts is stupid.
esp for technicials - people who have to climb under desks etc like you said.

one of our clients does heating/cooling systems. and as part of the whole big rebrand they got poloshirts with the company logo on them.
had a meeting with the boss the other week and he was saying how cool it is to look onto the workshop floor and to see everyone wearing the same.
and he was saying that the employees LIKE wearing the poloshirts.
besides, its more of a UNIFORM (so good to promote the company) but not one so as to be derogatory like a macdonalds or safeway uniform lol.

the employer also has earmarked other items that the workers can get - waterproof jackets, jumpers, shirts.
i dont know if he supplies them or if the workers get to buy them on the cheap?

all in all, if they are getting a free/cheap easily washable and comfortable uniform to wear they are gonna prefer wearing that than having to go out and buy their own shirts or ruin their own clothes at work.

do it well and people wont mind a "uniform"
give them something to bitch about, and they WILL!

No, no ties required and yes, they're just your average shirts. They're pretty cheap and nasty now that you mention it. I suppose that's why the techs are asking.

  • Raniator0

Well yeah, if they are cheap they will be uncomfortable by default. Polo shirts is probably the way to go. Black trousers, whatever coloured polo shirt with a visible, readable but still subtle logo on the chest.

The important thing with uniforms is that it fits properly. No one wants a XXL shirt when they are a small, and no one wants trousers that are blatantly too long - easily avoided when we shop for ourselves, but just look at your average 'uniformed' employee - Tesco, Blockbuster, Homebase (whatever)... all the clothes looks shit because they don't fit them.

And to answer the other question, if a techy firm turned up here to do some work and they were dressed in a shirt and tie/suit I'd just think:

"shit, we've got the bosses who know fuck all about anything... don't expect anything to get mended today".

    Abercrombie polo shirts fit amazingly.
