marriages are like a boat. the life jacket (prenup) is not to protect you from the other passenger (your potential spouse). Its to protect you from when the boat starts springing leaks and your partner/court holds u at fault simply because you have assets.

I'm thinking putting a % of the combined wealth dependent on children. that is if we have one kid than she gets 5%, 2 kids, 10% and so on. I'm thinking in lump sums rather than be dragged over the coals/alimony.
- Hit up too many kids and you'd have to sell off some off them to bring in the dough for the rest.Peter

this is a good read about A Rod's divorce
"In her petition to the court, Cynthia asked for the couple's $12 million waterfront estate and "equitable distribution" of all assets acquired during the marriage."

this is good, the spouse doesn't get a dime off cash made before the marriage.

Think about it this way: If you can't talk honestly about how you feel with regards to marriage and your possessions, either don't get married or suffer the consequences.

soften her up first.
you: "hey babe, i gotta tell you something. I have the clap, bad, and so do you..."
her: "WTF!? We've been together how long, and are engaged and you just now tell me!?"
you: "I'm actually kidding, I really wanted to ask about getting a prenup..."

prenups are vulgar. period. i could've asked my husband for one and vice versa, but then what would've been the point of getting married under those terms? marriage implies complete trust and sharing of everything...yourself, your life, your children and your assets.

Don't be hard on Lloyd. He's used to his dates coming with receipts.

If I was richer than a mother fucker I would get a prenup, I would ask my lady how much she wanted if we split up and I would chat with her about it and we would agree on how much I would give her, say for example you had 10 billion pounds and then your marriage with someone you loved went tits up and then you get a letter saying she wants half or he wants half FUCK THAT kiss my ass.
I would only ever ever ask for a prenup if I was richer than barry white, in life right now I would never dream of it, but I can absolutely understand why very very wealthy people would want one, especially if they gained their wealth before meeting their baby lover baby sweet cakes.

I completely agree with sputnik2. Prenups are vulgar. I obviously can't answer for sputnik's level of trust in her husband, but I trust my wife completely, and she trusts me – certainly more than I deserve. Without trust, we have no relationship. Marriage is a physical, emotional and spiritual merger; and when marriages fall apart, it's like a death happens. Insuring my financial stability ahead of time won't really do much to assuage the grief of a dead marriage if and when it happens. Everyone knows money does not buy happiness. I'd much rather have faith that God will keep my wife and I together and that the trust between us will remain and grow, than send my wife a clear message that I am preemptively covering my ass and that money is really the most important things in life – because if my marriage dies, fuck it – I can still pay for the coke and hookers.

How does one present the prenup?

I hate to bump this thread, but I just remembered something.
A marriage is a legal contract. I know it's not as simple as that, but there is a case to be made to get a pre-nup if you keep this idea in mind. You are already signing something.
