maybe this is a stupid question, any idea if there is anyway to hack, or add on an external Firewire 800 port to a mac mini?I need to install Logic 8, but not enough room on the mini's HD, have an external 1TB HD with FW800, but since the mini doesnt support it, im worried running the jam packs via FW400 will be too slow ?

There are simple hardware hacks to connect sATA drives to minis.
I wouldn't recommend putting apps on an external. It will be slow.
2.5" internal drives are so cheap now, upgrading it to a big fast (7200) drive is prolly the best solution. I just bought a 320GB/7200 Seagate for MacBook for €80, 5400's should be even cheaper.
- well the app itself wouldnt be external, only the fucking huge jampack monsters, 40+ gigsblackspade
- ok yeah thats what i thought you were describing.. i think it'd be fine no problemo.. worth a try?horton

Just try it via 400 then and dont' worry until it is actually slow.
Minis are quite upgradeable: Processor up to 2.33 C2D, RAM up to 2/3GB (depending on model), hard drives as you please, wi-fi up to N.. The video board is what you're stuck with.

FW 400 will be fine. If anything gets in the way, it'll be the mac mini.
- sweet yea aware of what the mini can handle with logic. ok for light draft demos/ideasblackspade
