So, do you think that all this talk of there being, erm... more percussion, in the music of our lives over the next twelve months will be a good thing or a bad thing, for... erm, people who listen to music as they work...
Lets recap. Its 'Percussion' though.

I have listened to two lots of percussion in the past. For the first, erm, drum roll, I was a freelance drummer and I have to say I was hitting the drums more not less. During the great drum break of 91-92 though I was employed, erm.. as a session musician in-house, so erm.. I didn't really noticed whether the sound engineers were amping up my drums, or down.
I'm not sure this drum analogy is going to work.

As long as we don't, um, all play...um dercussion, then we'll be ok. Even though this could be a great dercussion. Loud and boomy, like percussion, only, you know, more...

Check out Steve Reich's percussion music. Helps me focus.

From listening to records i just knew what to do I mainly tought myself. And, you know, i did pretty well Except there were a few mistakes. But um, that i made, uh, That i've just recently cleared up. And i'd like to just continue to be able to express myself As best as i can with this instrument And i feel like i have a lot of work to do.
Still, i'm a student - of the drums And i'm also a teacher of the drums too.And i would like to able to continue To let what is inside of me
Which is, which comes from all the music that i hear I would like for that to come out And it's like, it's not really me that's coming
The music's coming through me.

will the percussion be deep like a massive floor tom or shallow like a highly tuned snare? will it ring for years like a splashy china cymbol or decay quickly in the dead space of a soundproofed dry room where the engineers have taken appropriate measures?

Whatever it sounds like it rings true to me....

I'm investing in triangles. BUY big!

^ It seems to me that this is a pan-directional percussive trauma, so I think its likely to be the floor tom, slighty detuned from super-taut so it rumbles on longer than is really comfortable, but becuase of the reduction in audience numbers and erm, the... ah, the fact that there's no confectionery in the front-of-house/foyer area, I think we'll also see some fairly alarming smashing of cymbals to accompany it. Which will leave us all with our hands over our ears.
Oh dear. It just goes to show hard it must be to set up and underground resitance movement...
"We're thinking of starting a band... you seem like you might be the sort of person who could get involved"
" GREAT! WOO! LOVE MUSIC!"
"SSSSHHHHHHHHHH FFS!... we're, ahem... *Thinking*... of **STARTING**... a *BAND*... do you undertsand?"
"WOO-HOO!!!!! CAN I BRING MY BANJO???"
"FOR GOD'S SAKE MAN KEEP YOUR VOICE DOWN"

It all depends by how the china cymbals will sound.
If they are... round and soundy maybe will be ok.
If they're low quality... well

It can only be a good thing that prog-rock supergroup The Congress have recently released their greatest hits compilation "7 Billion Volts of Rock".
Hopefully that will stave off the worst of the percussion in time for some of the new technologies to give birth to a new industry. When you think about the fact that the transport industry pretty much needs to be completely re-invented and various other things, I think the future looks good, after the drum break has passed of course.
