So I got this book:
it's ok but skirts the issues of what buttons you should press. wtf. I've never encountered a touchy feely computer manual. I have three more weeks to relearn Lightwave then I start building my animation.

Have you tried the latest version of Blender? Weird as fuck UI to begin with but tons of dope features in there once you get going. LuxRender and Yafray are pretty good if you need to switch between a physically correct rendering system and a speedy one.
All free of course so you can invest all that cash in setting up some bangbus clone to fund your Learjet and 7 Ferraris or whatever it is that a Lloyd does when he's not fapping furiously.

I've used pretty much every major 3d program and when I cracked open Blender I had absolutely no idea what button does what. I'm willing to pay for something usable.
