I'm thinking about picking up an additional external hard drive to use as a backup to both my MBP and an existing external hard drive. It is a WD MyBook 320 GB drive, and I'd buy another similar one that will also use FireWire 800.
My question is, can you chain these together - a new one for backups to the existing one - and it will be recognized and properly backup data?

you can setup time machine to backup 1, 2 or all your drives at a time. but its all just 1 backup operation.. no option to BU disk 1 today and disk 2 tomorrow.
i think its best put to use primarily as a backup for your OS X disk and daily work files. the stuff that changing throughout the day.
you can daisy chain the FW disks however you like, so long as they're connected to the main OS X disk (not shared/ on local network).
