Anyone here uses IE as their main browser?

keep in mind that the info in the w3schools link is for visitors to that site, which aren't necessarily "average" users, depending on your target audience

speaking of that you should note that "average" varies wildly from site to site.
As evidence, there's more than a 25% difference in firefox usage between w3schools and thecounter.com:
the counter.com stats:

- obviously the browsers used would depend on the target audience. qbn would be latest vsairey
- as we're all early adopters + we in fact know you can update your browserairey
- exactly. My google analytics tells me 75% of the people visiting my site are on macs.flashbender

it's important to analise your audience first. a lot of people don't realise you can update your browser or that there are options beyond IE. make fun of them all you like, if you want their cash then you'll want them to see the site.

This site is again broken for me. IE 8 beta2, none of the sidenotes work. IE breaking something...big surprise eh?

960 is a good size that will grid up rather nicely and if you look around you will find a pdf with the BBCs 12 column grid that uses 974 pixels including all margins and gutters. That should work on well over 90% of browsers according to the info above.

Oh... and you would have a safety zone for the page "fold" being at around 600px from the top
