OK after much searching and worrying that I'd have to choose between developing intellectual chops or visual chops, I think I've finally found the PERFECT course.

Obviously it's going to be ridiculously difficult to get into.

Does anyone here know anyone who has successfully applied to do the MA in Animation at the RCA?

If yes, any advice about what I need to demonstrate with my portfolio and application will be hugely appreciated.

Just one note: check the deadlines, they're pretty stoopid (you have to apply in january to start in autumn of the same year)

    Good luck with that.

And, since you're still searching, what about the NTFS?

Pricey and hard to get in as well. But they have pretty detailed submission rules, which possibly will do great also for RCA

Hey Fariska, thanks for that, I hadn't seen it... Would be amazing to go to the NFTS. Maybe they'd let me in if I redesigned their site for them, my god it's bad!

I can't seem to find a course outline anywhere on the site, weird...

So far I've been looking at the MA at LCC (interesting but possibly overly theoretical and not practical enough for me), the Diploma at Chelsea (but I suspect I can do everything on the course already) and the animation and VFX courses at Escape (technically amazing but purely industry driven, not a bad thing but ideally I'd like a balance between technique and conceptual development).

All the stuff I've found so far that is in the right direction for me seems to be by graduates of the RCA or St Martins. This guy graduated from the RCA last year...

I know what you mean vespa, while me and my gf were looking for an animation course we went thru the same dilemma.
RCA and NFTS were the most mouth-watering, but because the price, the lenght of the course (2 years) and the deadlines, she applied for animation at CSM, and ketp LCC as a second choice.
We weren't impressed too much by the projects from CSM, but at the end for her, who is an illustrator that course is a good choice.
At CSM they ask for life drawing skills and ability to think movement as requirements (this apply also for LCC since the application procedure is the same) and then they go thru a classical hand-drawn animation base at the beginning and then there's a split between 2d animation and 3d animation. The big plus for CSM is that they showcase the final projects at the National Gallery (http://www.nationalgallery.org...
There is one more course we looked at:
    http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/pgpro…
But we were told that LondonMet isn't really good.
(and that is everything about animation courses i know in London)

Anyway: good luck with your search.

I presume its just in and around london you were looking to study?

I went to Dundee and certainly at the time, their animation department was one of the best in the UK. The guy in charge of the department did some characters and animation for the first of the recent star wars.

Dont know if its still got that status now though.
