  Also, I love Runyon Canyon for hiking and the view. It's in the heart of Hollywood, but most people don't know it's there. It's an oasis in the city.

  go to the wine country north of santa barbara. not in LA, but it's gorgeous. we were there monday, about a 2 1/2 hour drive from the city but definitely worth it. this is the place we visited: http://foxenvineyard.com/
