I'm a designer trying to learn AS3 from previously knowing AS2 and AS1. I'm so discouraged as the simplest things I just can't do anymore. Is this something which is just not meant for designers? Should I give up? Anyone else having these thoughts?

I gave up on flash when AS3 came out - i don't need to learn anymore languages

I hear the new flash is going to be designer friendly.

mrbens,
I guess with AS3 you need to import all classes you'd like to use with your flashpiece - timeline, movieclip control, yep.

As a designer, I wouldn't worry too much about being an AS3 master. It's a job for a developer....just learn the basics. That's what I am trying to do.

just simple things like I've made a dynamic movie clip and appearing on stage then trying to target it with code from somewhere else - how do you target it? Maybe this is a question for a technical forum? Before I go and ask - anyone know or give me a pointer to a tutorial on referencing dynamically placed movieclips?

it is easier to learn AS3 if you don't know AS2.

when as4 hits... i think it's just going to have new classes etc... but I wouldn't worry about the syntax changing much... I think adobe's been working toward ECMA standards (that match javascript etc)...
... as far as making the leap to as 3 from 1 or 2... try using this cheat sheet: http://www.actionscriptcheatshee…
- AS 3 is more Java-like, they want to attract the Java developers to AIR platformrafalski
