Would you even consider buying a house that an armed standoff occured in which during an elderly person died of natural causes?
What if it was a great house in an incredible neighourhood and at a good price?
- Jnr_Madison0
Why not, does it matter what went on before to you? I mean it wasn't like a serial killer brutally murdered all the occupants. I would buy a house like that.
- acescence0
no, why would you? sounds like some superstitious stuff to me.

If everyone knew everything that went on in their houses before them, everyone would insist on building their own houses. If you like it, go for it. Unless you're really superstitious, no past event should have any effect on the house.

It was the longest standoff in my cities history, a very strange story. From what I read the elderly lady that died asked for a priest and doctor. The police wouldn't let either in because others in her family had fired guns...

I don't see how this consideration could logically factor into the decision. Sure, it's a little creepy, but we're all one banana peel away at every waking moment.
- makes perfect sense. jus buy it foo, else tell us where it's at....robotron3k

I was minutes away from putting an offer in on this house earlier today... when I remembered this happening a few years back. Didn't realize it was the same house until I googled it. Not sure what to think...

OK - What if it was a murder?

did the seller mentioned the incident? maybe you can beat down the asking price a little bit?
- nosaj0
The incident wasn't mentioned... This happened several years ago - the current owner purchased it as an estate sale after the owner died during the standoff.
"... were arrested as they left the house carrying their baby and the body of the elderly mother, who died of natural causes during the standoff, on a makeshift stretcher. "
- nosaj, I just want you to understand something, everyone dies, it's just kinda the thing we wait for most.robotron3k

I once rented a place which had used to be a brothel. one day a friend brought an old trucker magazine with an ad for the brothel. there were interesting pictures from my bathtub in the ad, which apparently had been used for the nasty stuff ("tubgirl"). never bothered me, but was always made for good story if a guest wanted to use the bathroom.
donĀ“t know if it compares it to your problem though.

nosaj, are you scared of the dark?

bring your psychic / priest.
also talk to the seller, why he is selling. and why its such a bargain. if it was a bargain for him, why is he not selling it with a big profit? why you getting the bargain?if you are superstitious, the imagery will stain your memory and makes you see things, drive yo mad.

I'm still teetering on this one... Our house sold today, and this is the neighborhood we want to move too. Just such a public event - a documentary film made about it.

If something like what you described happened, I would be more interested in buying the house.
However, it depends on the situation or what really happened. Not that most people know the whole story of every event, but, for example, anything owned or operated by Charles Manson is something I would try to avoid. Same goes for sickos in general.
It adds character to the house, either way.
Just beware that people may ask you questions or trespass if they know the history behind the house.

It wouldn't matter a jot to me, christ worse things happen in my own bed yo!

to be honest, I would consider it. I might even call in a feng shui (sp?) expert or a psychic to sniff things out
- I mean I would consider not considering it********
- oh dear, is Rand going Jesse Jensen on us?********
- I mean I would consider not considering it

If such things mattered, what would that mean for all of the houses in Europe that are a few hundred years old? Half of such places would probably be vacant.
The only thing that'd put me off is to find out it was built on old Indian Burials Grounds - I've seen the movies, I know what kind of shit's going to go down.
