ukit you should check out some of the indie games on steam ( I posted this in another thread) Some of the art direction and design on these is amazing.

I think in many cases it's 1 or 2 guys doing some of these smaller indie games. Steam client seems like a good way for would-be small game developers to get their stuff out there...through the digital-only distribution method. Much less overhead than trying to make a retail game.
