If hear this sentence one more time I'm going to punch a wall or just do something unproductive ..
Your really talented but I think this position is below your level.

Well you're not too talented at grammar.
If that's any consolation.

Did you apply for God's job?

that's certainly one way to bill yourself on a designer's online marquee

Audria-
1) I thought OSHA or someone from QBN hooked you up with a job?
2) When someone says that, it just means they don't want to pay you enough. Yes I heard that myself once. Actually, I think it was "over qualified", then I found out from a friend they offered 35,000 for the job.
No business plan would use a strategy like that, avoiding talent, unless they are cheap.

This happens to some people with various degrees / levels from college. Especially those who are studying science. You usually need a Masters, but not a Phd, as you may be "too qualified".

What roles are you applying for?

Do you have experience and work samples that have to do with the job you are applying for? Maybe what they are seeing is that you are good at illustration, but not enough in your portfolio to convince them that you know how to do what ever they are hiring for?

Have you considered including some more traditional straight-laced stuff in your portfolio? You should view each interview you do as a custom situation, not a repeat of some sort of practiced presentation. Tailor what you show, and how you speak to your skills around what you would actually do at a given place, and how your experience speaks to the job responsibilities you would have. If they say any of this jazz again, point out that you are a recent graduate, a hard worker, and that you have to start somewhere, or something along those lines. Good Luck ;D

when I was a kid and my Dad would go to New York to try to get a New York gallery they would always say his paintings were "too beautiful"... it's easier to reject someone if you add a comment that might be interpreted as a compliment

they're just being nice
