George Bush turns up in China for the launch of the Olympics and is the only leader to have the gall or guts to bang on about Human Rights etc in China.
The way he pulls it off with such innocence and niavity in the same way that Sacha Baron Cohen gave us Ali G and Borat - With the characters not realising what they are saying is completely wrong in the situation and is the politically incorrect thing to be doing as well as completely misunderstanding questions they are being asked, completely changing the subject or causing some other kind of surreal distraction.
It made me think about all those "Bush-isms"

I truly believe they were all deliberate. It's comedy genius!

i found it AMAZING to watch bush condemn china on their human rights! er hello! GUANTANAMO BAY???
what pissed me off also were some of the american athletes came off a plane wearing masks cos of the pollution - fucking hypocritical and ignorant, america's the biggest polluter in the world!
- are you kidding me?epete22
- can Bush do no wrong in your eyes cos he's a Texan Cowboy too?23kon
- It's not that the athletes don't think america pollutes, it's that the air quality in Beijing is like 10 times worse than any city in the US.technikiller
- actually, this is wrong. china recently became the largest emitter of co2.Faction18
- you can def see the pollution in all the broadcasts, just a smog over the city23kon
- guantanamo is like a minute fraction of what he's apart ofKwesiJ

It will be funny when the UK hosts the Olympics because then the world's eyes will be on us and the human rights we break - like detaining "terrorists" for unlimited time without proof.

"All we've done is export a great slice of the West's carbon footprint to China, and today we see the result.
"Let us not forget that the average Chinese emits just 3.5 tonnes of CO2 per year, whereas Britons emit nearly 10 tonnes and Americans 20 tonnes.
"The West moved its manufacturing base to China knowing it was vastly more polluting than Japan, Europe or the US,"

Reminds me of the US Senator Sam Brownback (R) who went to China a few months ago and came back and on the congressional floor and laid into some anti-china rant about China being able to eavesdrop on any communication in the country. I was like "Dude, you just fucking voted for FISA amendment act that allows the US government to listen to all communication in the US without a warrant??" So China is like evil and shit but you're just a good ole'boy USA? They're all fucking delusional...

Firstly, i am no Bush fan (other than, you know...the female kind)
But everyone is up in arms about China's human rights track record (and rightly so). But then when Bush says something about it, people bitch because of the US's not-so-stellar track record (which, yes, is bad). Certainly, the same people would complain about him being silent on the human rights issue if he said nothing.- it's the equivalent of walking tinto the bank, calling the banker a fucking asshole then asking him to extend your line of credit.mrdobolina
- of credit.mrdobolina
- hahaha, quite.detritus

I'm quite surprised he even mentioned it, or moreso the fact he even knew about it. He maybe read an article about it on the plane over while supping his dutyfree.
I do admire him for mentioning it though - or moreso the gall to do so.

What I read on bbcnews seemed appropriate to me. I am certainly am not a Bush fan. But "politically incorrect" who cares.
Some Bush qoutes from the Olymipcs:
"The US believes the people of China deserve the fundamental liberty that is the natural right of all human beings,"
I agree with that. Bush also said:
"Young people who grow up with the freedom to trade goods will ultimately demand the freedom to trade ideas..."
commenting on internet filtering in China.....who could argue with that? I agree that 90% of what comes out of his mouth is crap, but when I read this article I found myself in agreement....for once.
- btw, I'm not saying it isn't hypocritical.designbot
- I agree with the words and sentiments as well - but Bush's actions in Iraq and here at home make them hollow.TheBlueOne
- agreed. I guess it's starting to annoy me that people hate Bush just to hate him. you know?designbot

only liberals could have wacky double standards like this. the words themselves are sound, but uttered from a republican, they're no good.
riiight..
- What Bush can say "human rights" and "freedom" and oversee torture policies and the rollback of habeaus corpus?TheBlueOne
- Who has the "double standard" ?TheBlueOne
- Words are great, the guy who said them? Not so much..ut walking it and talking it never means much to republicans...TheBlueOne
- ..though they sure can talk it...fucking pros at itTheBlueOne

ya they're diliberate. the locked door, the deflated basketball, the opec/apec things are all done to reinforce his public persona as stupid and ultimatly distracts from the real issues. he's got teams of pr media people making this shit up for him to act out.
- the layers on the conspiracy onion just keep peeling, eh?TheBlueOne
