I'm in need of finding a easy to use and set up content management platform on MT's servers via FTP...
Thought I'd ask around.
Any thoughts??

MODx (www.modxcms.com) is a pretty good Open Source CMS, you can SVN it straight to a Media Temple server without any problems or upload it with FTP...
- Didn't this have some huge security holes? Or have they been fixed?klipklap

features? language preference?

features... language preference...
It's not really my territory... so far friends are talking about open source like Joomla, Mambo and Drupal...I just tested out a PHP gallery form SourceForge.net and I have problems that I have no idea how to resolve.
So... dummy proof is the key for me at the moment.

wordpress can be an excellent and cheap option depending on the brief.
modx above is tops also but a very real CMS in that there's a learning curve. huge level of options and features. very powerful.
and the easiest of all - one that has helped me a lot over the last few years - Adobe Contribute. even has an inline image editor in it now.

i would recommend drupal. joomla is a fork of mambo, because there was so much infighting between developers they split off. mambo is a total mess. joomla isn't much better.

The tip to MODx is great, if I were more of a developer I think it's where I'd put my time and money. There seems to be a bit of a learning cure there for sure. I'd have to hire another guy just for that.
We've thought about contribute for sure...
Thanks for the tip on the drupal. It seems the better of the three and lots of support. I think that's the key for this project, open source and lots of user support. Until we can hire a developer for this project we just gotta give it legs. Something quick and easy...
Thanks

Depends on scale. Here's a few smaller solutions if you're not in need of anything overly complicated:

Thanks,
That's great, it's either this or we need to hire some that can whip up a kick ass CMS with user based forum.
Cheers

The forum in Drupal is kind of underwhelming, but it's probably the best place to start.

CMS Simple comes to mind...
Easy to use and a lot of modules.

Textpattern is great and very versatile, even though a blog at first it can be modified into almost anything else and it has tons of languages and plugins for your specific needs. You need to get a little bit familiar with Textile though, but not much. As long as you know your XHTML/CSS well you are fine. Easy to install, only takes a few minutes and can all be done via your browser and a simple FTP app.
