I played this game from the very first edition on my Amiga 1200, people were outraged back then when the character models were made of 12 pixels!
The guy who killed the taxi driver is obviously insane, and to possibly try and divert attention from his actions he's blamed GTA? Maybe.
He said he wanted to see if stealing a car was as easy as in the game. As easy as pushing the Y button. Yep. Stupid mother fucker, let him fry.

He couldn't afford to "play" the game.
In some poor countries where very few kids have the console, there are arcade houses. It is just like a traditional arcade, but not with actual machines, just a bunch of xbox, or playstation hook up in a room, and the owner charges by the hour. It was probably around $1 an hour of play, so obviously his $15 allowance was really short of a lot of game playing for the month.

games for the child

I'd like to knock someone off in the name of police brutality.

"The 18-year-old high school student is accused of stabbing the cab driver to death by trying to copy a scene from the game."
See, I hate this shit. Trying to copy a "scene" from the game? And what "scene" would that be? As usual, the people reporting are the people who haven't played the game or done their research.
Sure, you could pull a taxi driver from his cab and stab him to death, but you could also choose not to, just like you could choose not to in real life.

This asshole lives in Thailand and couldn't figure out how to cop a copy of the game for $1 USD. What a disappointment.

"Grand theft auto has a lot to answer for"
Why? How is the video game more responsible than the knife manufacturer?
I'd blame his parents and his environment first.
Then the kid.
- Raniator0
Focussing on what thesteevo said... I know you were only kidding, but it's a good point.
I've (along with 8 million others) played it and I haven't felt the need to kill someone? Why? Because I'm not a murderer...
That kid was going to kill someone whether he had seen/played that game or not.

From an article at Wii Loaded.
"In Thailand, pirated games are sold on the streets in broad daylight. You can find pirated games in department stores and there are even a few dedicated to selling nothing but pirated games. How can they operate like that without getting caught? Well, they can’t or at least, they shouldn't be allowed to. Corruption is widespread here, just like in many other countries and the pirated game vendors simply pay off the police to stay in business. It's become impossible to leave your house and travel for more than five minutes without seeing something pirated for sale"

Wii Games range from $1.50 to $2.50, that is less of what it cost to rent a game.
Lets just say that a ps3/ 360 game costs $3.00.
with the $15 he spent on a pair of knives, he could have bought 5 copies of GTA.How is the game responsible again?
- chossy0
The game is responsible in as far as it is his excuse same as a film or a book may have been his excuse, like meekio said the cunt could have bought the game for a fifth of the price he paid for the knifes and etc. his parents probably forbid him to play the game as they could see he was turning into ismith / detritus, I think perhaps there has been a translation error, the kid probably said his parents forbid him to play the game so they would not give him the money to buy it. Or some shit like that.
- autoflavour0
maybe its just bad writting in the article.. by cant afford the game, maybe they are referring to the console.
as for the game being responsible.. it isnt.. but try telling that to every conservative soccer mum out there who already hates gaming.. no to them, grand theft auto is the reason society is failing.
- chossy0
Well it does have a part to play it cannot be ignored, how big a part is open for discussion. It's a nightmare that people are weak minded enough to be led by a game.
- Meeklo0
"try telling that to every conservative soccer mum out there who already hates gaming"
I believe conservatives are more likely to commit a crime than a liberal. (generally speaking that is) so I don't think I care to discuss with a soccer mom that wears a big mask during social events, but gets drunk every night in front of her kids, cheats on his husband, does cocaine on her car on the way back from dropping her kids at school and on sunday goes to church.
- I need to meet these soccer moms :Echossy
- be my guest.. look at them.. all cranked up on coffee

You know as a young man who's grown up through the computer game age.. and witnessed the impact of some games on human lives I have to say that there real negative impacts that games have on humans that don't know the difference between real and not real. This story sounds reminiscent of this type of person who doesn't know the real or not real difference.
And even more so a detrimental social effect on those who cannot disconnect ( from games, or the internet ) because they have nothing else to connect to. The main problem lies within the fact of connecting and disconnecting. Just like people who use the internet abusively ie internet addiction ( and its effect of isolating people ). Computer games can have a similar effect.
But that is just my two cents on it.
- That beings said both of those games are fun in moderation. Not everyone in society can handle it though.Iggyboo
- Meeklo0
I may agree with you Iggy.
but we have to first acknowledge that the kid had serious traumatic problems before he even knew about the game, so weather it was the game, a marilyn manson cd that he listened to, or a pasta commercial showing a lot of red sauce, the kid was already fdup to begin with..
- SoulFly0
Should he have bought pirated games?
Hey... Can't blame the kid for having good ethics!
- Meeklo0
SoulFly has a good point.
Lets all blame Lee Scott, for not opening a store in thailand, so this kid could afford a video game, and his parents a better job.
