When starting a new job, is it considered acceptable to ask for financial info on the company? For instance how much they made in profits and where various revenue streams come from etc.

if you're applying for cfo maybe..
sounds strange but then again i've never had a job

Financial records for companies are (at least in the UK via Companies House) public domain after they have been filed. Not sure about the US, but it should be similar.

Nevermind, I'll go muck around a little

Look them up on Hoovers. But, yes, you have every right to question them about their financial health.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering - is there a site that has that info for US companies? Does it matter if the company is privately owned vs. public?

Again I've only run a company in the UK so i can only comment from that perspective. But yes, both companies I've run we're privately owned and you can find all their yearly accounts via companies house.
Companies House has info on registering companies in the US and supplies links. Might find some info there?

Looks like they provide a service like you're after. Not free though. There has to be a free solution somewhere.

Thanks for the help. I've actually found the info I was looking more easily than I thought I could, it was posted in Wikipedia.

But if anyone knows of a good free site for US companies please post it, that would be a nice resource to have.
