Other members in my team work on a catalog (84 pages) with almost 4,000 products listed. It has become a nightmare for them to check and double check item numbers and pricing during the final production phase. Is there a way (plug-in?) to capture that information from our database (SQL) and fill in the data within InDesign?
I'm thinking of a mail merge kind of function, where you specify {product_number} and it resolves pricing or other information...

I believe it accepts csv files, and you can probably spit that straight out of your DB.

I have a client who produces 200 catalogs a year. I designed a template and set up the files so that they could use the datamerge feature. There was a bit of a learning curve in getting it set up but it really paid off the end. Once the templates were completed all they had to do press a button and the template populates with the text and images.
- of course they also have to prepare the CSV and images. We batch the images to speed up production.Josev
- Exactly what I was thinking...Once they told me how they were doing it currently, I knew there had to be a better way...thanks!Crack_Junkie
- The datamerge feature works pretty well, but there are some more robust plugins out there that you can purchase.Josev
