The iWork stuff is pretty good, but I agree with the Numbers/Excel thing. Excel is ugly and a bit of a dog to use, but it's WAY faster.

I use NeoOffice and it's great... constantly being updated... opening people's giant Powerpoint presentations will always be annoying, so why pay for the program?

if you have Powerpoints to play with then I'd say that Powerpoint is what you need. Office is 100% compatible with Office documents where iWork is not... so other than the cool factor I can't see why you'd want to complicate your life.

Office is one of the things Microsoft does well, even though it can be annoying at times, it's super powerful. Mac doesn't have anything that can compete, especially on the business level. Why else do you think they make Microsoft Office for Mac? Most businesses that use Mac have Microsoft Office suite, so it would probably be a wise purchase (or download) imo.

i would just buck up and get MS Office. Although, a lot lately I have been using the Google Docs, not for PPT though, more for spreadsheets and word-type docs

iWork is cheaper and easier to use. Not quite as powerful but unless you're doing a ton of automation save your money.

Depends how complex these powerpoints are really.
Text and images fine, video and wordart(lol) probably less fineI use numbers to open basic excel stuff, but I wouldn't use it if I had to deal with formulas/scripting
- oh they both have trial versions actually, so try em out !modern
- Trial version has expired. I must have run it when I first got my mac then never touched it for a year...thebottlerocket
