Is there a nice applications to organize your photos on a mac? Like tag them and make them searchable? I've got hundreds and it's getting tough. I know some guys that use iPhoto but it bogs down seriously as it seems to load in all the images in the library first. Any tips welcome.

That Photon software sounds like the deal. Have you tried it? Any good? Can you Tag images as well?
Haven't tried aperture yet. I thought it's like Photoshop.
What's lightroom?- I thought you could tag images, but now that I have it open I guess not...ismith
- You can do adjustments in Aperture. but its mostly exposure, lighting etc. if you need more It works well with photoshop.********

We use iView to catalog and process thousands of photos for our online magazine (really full feature set, exports web galleries, batch renaming etc)... Sadly taken over by Microsoft, who re-released as Expression Media and immediately made it worse.

I loved the lightroom 2 beta and I thought it beat aperture on several levels, except price.
I bought Aperture and saved $100.
You could also try Picasa by the google
