I've been asking myself that question quite a bit lately. What really does it take to be good at what we do. Is it knowing one or two things very well? Is it knowing a lot of things pretty well? Is it pure talent? Is it somewhere in between?

constantly evolving and learning is what it takes.

So there's no point at which anyone has 'arrived'?

I think it means finding your own style and perfecting that, then moving outside of your comfort zone every time you sit down and think about the next project. Once you become satisified with your work and think it is good, it is time to quit and move on. You have "arrived" when you are getting paid well to do that which you love.

If you want to be successful in a particular field of endeavor, I think perseverance is one of the key qualities. It's very important that you find something that you care about, that you have a deep passion for, because you're going to have to devote a lot of your life to it.

We all aspire to be great, few achieve it. I don't think anyone sits down at their desk to be just ok.

what's good? I think if you make what you want to make for long enough people will take note. If good means popular then I guees you have to be trendy, cool, hip etc etc.
- mjg0
it means not doing what's popular now. think ahead. do what you want design to be, not what design trends want you to do.

better to be the king of one thing than the jack of everything. Or so I've been told, but I prefer versatility.
Also finding you're own way, not running after the acceptance of others, and having fun.
