what josev said is a great source. i've used it on my pb g4 15". just make sure you get the right compatible drive. search around etc. it's realtively easy, just dont forget to ground yourself first!! and go slow as to not mess it up or rip wires etc...

This is a good site. There is this special tool that makes it easier to separate the top surface, keyboard and trackpad from the bottom.
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/…- also, somewhere on the site is a PDF that you can print out for organizing the screws. You just tape them to the labeled sheet. There are a lot of screws in the PbooksJosev

You want to find the Apple specs that match your Powerbook for a start....
Is this it?
http://support.apple.com/specs/p…I think any Ultra ATA/100 would work?

So the AppleCare on my 12" G4 Powerbook is up which means I can crack the thing open without fear of retribution. It works well enough so I want to just upgrade the hard drive. Can I just get any ATA100 3.5" drive, put it in, and format/set it up by booting to the Leopard CD? Or does Apple have some kind of proprietary hardware key or something? Anyone have any experience?
