Otto, I've lived in the West End, Yaletown, Kits, and North Van.
West End is dope cuz it's cheap, cycling distance to most everything and near the beach. Older character apartments and a good easy going vibe.
Yaletown is expensive as hell and yuppie central but super close to all the offices of downtown and has an awesome nightlife scene, just be prepared to not save any money and having to deal with striped shirt douchebags and girls that care more about your bank account than anything else. I did live here when I first moved to Van and had a blast partying though.... didn't save a penny.
A friend once described Kits as 'a bunch of rich people pretending to be poor'. It's got that laid back surf attitude and style but make no mistake, it's still pricey and you'll a lot of BMW's mixed in with the overpriced apartments. Killer beach though.
I currently live in North Van because I'm working over here now and I'm into the outdoors scene. I rock climb, snowboard, kayak, etc. so North Van offers easy access to all that. Just an option but not the best place to live if you don't know anyone as it's a quiet hood.
As for artists though .... check out gastown, chinatown, and commercial areas.
hope that helps a little.

westend is good by the beach, lots around.
if you are more into the hipster scene, main street or commercial st is the place to go.
kits is also pretty nice
everything is expensive

If you want to walk everywhere, then the west end or gastown is your best bet. Railtown would be good too as its nearby sunrise, a 15 minute walk from downtown and a bike-ride away from commercial and main.

Otto, your eponymous logotype is really cool.

I'd like to walk everywhere, have access to local markets and small restaurants. Doesn't have to be the heart of downtown, so something quite like East Village or Soho out in New York...
Thanks again for the quick replies !

seeing that you're in montreal i'll assume you appreciate a little cultural diversity... so i might suggest SoMa/ south Main St. hipstrip, or perhaps Commercial Dr. if you don't mind a few dirty hippies.
but i left the city a few years ago for greener pastures, so what do i know. good luck, and reply to your post soon if you really want advice.

I live downtown, but work out of Main and South Granville. It really depends on your lifestyle/interests as each neighbourhood is pretty strictly delineated according to cultural taste.

you mean location/ neighborhoods to live in? what's your social clique? vancouverites tend to nest in colonies.

I've never been (even though I've lived in Seattle), but I've heard it's really expensive.
- Ottoblix0
Nah, that's what I have right now ... pretty f*ckin lousy !

Thinking about moving to Vancouver soon, any suggestions on location, location, location ?
Thanks !
