so, do people still bring hard copy portfolios to interviews? I have a couple coming up and just want to bring a laptop to show work, or a presentation. Is that fine?

Bring your portfolio.... simple.
Is your portfolio on your laptop? Yes? Done.

Interactive and/or web = online is probably fine
Graphic, etc. = hard copy
I think it would be helpful to have a variation, just in case.

People are way more relaxed these days.. Is it an informational interview, or a legit job interview? If your currently working, people understand you don't have time to blow them away with an immaculate book. Informational interviews are really more about the conversation, you could seriously just show them your website and you'd be okay.
In the end, the work will get you hired, but every little piece of crafted goodness shows that your dedicated.

both, enough said!

A printed portfolio (especially as a print designer) is absolutely essential!

if you are bringing in a printed portfolio, please indicate the type of work and table of contents.
its the only usable thing to do.

I'd say bring the laptop just in case they need to you to present in a room where there is not an easy web hook up. Even though that seems unlikely.

many places lock down their routers and dont allow guest access
many places also might not necessarily have a machine waiting for you in a meeting roomso bring your portfolio (aka site) with you on your computer to show it to them locally. plan on "shit happening" (like no internet connection) and youll be ready.
