Inadvertent Day Off

Well I was going to go into work late today because of a medical appointment, but my wife just told me that building maintenance is coming by at 1pm becuase there's all manner of leaky pipes in the building they have to address and that I have to be here.
So, do I call in the boss and say "well,not only am I going to be late today (which he knew) but I probably won't be in until monday morning..." or do I just not show up and figure maybe he'll assume I was at work at somepoint?
"Sure, sure..I was there..got there at um 1 and left at 3..yeah..yeah? We must of missed each other..."
And I was planning on having that Cost of Living raise increase with him today too....
