I'd just advise stay away from the midtown area. Go to a small, quiet place in either of the Villages or the LES with slightly more character, and I think you'll like it a lot more.

the usual suspects would be the NYT 4 star ratings--there are four or five of them--these are all of the fussy variety, though

Peter Luger Steakhouseand after...
you should go to Milk & Honey or, if you can't get a reservation there, Angel's Share or Little Branch are both really good. Amazing drinks at all, very relaxed, a bit pricey though. ($10-15 cocktails) All worth it though.Bourgeois Pig is good if you're into wine.
- Milk & Honey looks really cool (although you can't see anything). Not sure it is worth membership for one night thoughfodcj
- i think peter luger is over-rated.tkmeister
- I think Peter Luger's is not over ratedWolfboy
- don't need a membership for milk & honey. just their unpublished phone number to make a reservation. I have it if you decide you want to go.duckseason

I'm guessing you can't really go wrong with Battali.

If i didn't have a budget for a meal, I would definitely hit LeBernardin before JeanGeorges or PerSe. Though I'm sure all 3 would rock your world in terms of 3star Michelin's. My friend just ate at Ramsay/London, said it wasn't amazing and w/ wine pairing for 2people, the bill came to $600. I've been to a few Batali restaurants that were good (babbo, esca, mono and otto). I think my fav was actually CasaMono because of it's uniqueness in flavors. I hear DelPosto is fab though. One of our dishes at Esca was meh. SpottedPig is a great place, good food, very casual... but no reservations can mean a big wait for 4people. Likewise, it will be near impossible to get 4people in at MomofukuKo just because of their system. Places like Luger and Craft and good meat/steak choices. Do you have an area you want to eat, or food pref?
- Note to self: Talk to Douglas before going to NY.non
- Del Posto has great food and it's super pricey, but there are thousands others like it.waterhouse
- Great advice, thanks Douglasfodcj

Freeman's is kinda cool when visiting. Good food, drinks, atmosphere, and down that alley makes it feel special. Also no reservations though. I think you need a place that takes names.
I also ate at Perilla inW.Village a couple weeks ago, very good.- Freeman's is the one I was trying to think of earlier. Went there last time and loved it :)fodcj
