Dear 'the man',
Please stop keeping me down.
I looked into getting a british passport.
Turns out I have to sit a citizenship test.
Fair enough..The only problem is that the questions are f*cking ambiguous.. I'd never pass it..
Have a go at sample questions..
Migration to Britain
* Where have migrants come from in the past and why? (what? the ONE place???)
Children, family and young people
* Do many children live in single parent families or step-families? (I don’t know – some??)
* How many go on to higher education? (a lot?)
* What drugs are illegal?Population
* How many people belong to an ethnic minority and which are the largest minority groups? (to AN ethnic group??? Is it predefined??)
Religion and tolerance
* How many people say they have a religion and how many attend religious services? (does anyone actually know this?? Do you want a percentage or a number?)
Government
* What are quangos and non-departmental public bodies? (what’s a what???)

haha didnt see that...
this is some stupid shit.
do you get a book or somthing? cause it looks like i need to cram these predefined answers

I sat that test a few years back. Its easy to study for as the questions are taken from only a couple of chapters of the citizenship book they give you. Plus you only need to get 17 right out of 20.
Its a doddle, i was out in 10 minutes.

Migration to Britain
* Where have migrants come from in the past and why? (what? the ONE place???)
--- reckon htey might be angling at the commonwealth here, for colonial pay back reasons ;)
* How many go on to higher education? (a lot?)
--- you should be able to find stats, but maybe they want you to parrot on about the great equality of education for all her. we love that shit
* What drugs are illegal?everything bar booze, fags and prescription
Population
* How many people belong to an ethnic minority and which are the largest minority groups? (to AN ethnic group??? Is it predefined??)
--- you'll get stats on tinternet. indian, pakistani and west indian I would imagine (and Irish of course)
Government
* What are quangos and non-departmental public bodies? (what’s a what???)
groups of "experts" set up to discuss issues and advice policy to the government who are not themselves government or party members and therefor unbiased
[ to those that would be my answers and I reckon I'd be on the first boat back to the colonies]]]

If you after a book, Waterstones has one you can buy, which is basically the 4 chapters out of the citizenship book they give you.
You can buy that if you want, but I wouldn't bother. You should reall get hold of the book though.

'Scuse my ignorance, but of you're an EU bitch, why do you want a British passport?
- sleepyfatso0
Elpaso, I passed it and so did the wife, I got the book if you wanna read up. Buy me a pint and you can borrow it. I got it at work if you wanna come by tomorrow and pick it up.
- elpaso0
just got off the phone and it turns out that i dont need to take a test!
haha silly loopholes..
- chossy0
I think you should take the test if you don't know how many single parent families there are in this country then you will never be able to call yourself a Brit.
- elpaso0
nairn: because i stupidly forgot to register for national service in Portugal when I was 18. so now that the time has come to renew my passport my name is flagged up and i can either be made to serve time in the Army reserves or get arrested. which is unlikely to happen - but i'd like to cover my bases..
- sleepyfatso0
but, my pint... wanna borrow the book anyway?
- hahahaah
i shall buy you pints regardless.
and read the book too! so i can throw fact grenades on peeps!elpaso
- hahahaah
- elpaso0
to be honest chossy if i got a british passport i'd prolly call myself scottish..
i'm thinking it would help me aborad a bit more than being english.
- detritus0
Aha. Ouch, Yes, that's a pretty good reason.
I love that I've met so many people who've come to Britain (one of the last significantly war-mongering nations on Earth) to flee their respective home countries' National Service obligations :)
- i_monk0
You "sit a test"? Who says that?
- elpaso0
oh wait turns out i was lied to..
i dont have to do it if im 18 or younger..Sleepyfatso - pint in Soho tomorrow
Para - i'll see you at the test hall for celebratory hi5's / comiseration beverages! :D

according to the book, it says that there are one too many countries in the commonwealth and also one country short of the total number of members in the EU. but what the hell should I know, I'm chinese.
