Any specific things I should keep in mind for working with print? I can't seem to find a happy medium with the brightness, contrast and white point. Which I guess is about everything.

You need to calibrate your monitor with some sort of calibrating hardware.

Picked up the Spyder2 Pro. Horrible. I don't know if I got a one that's mucked up or what, but it made things worlds worse.

It's always a huge shock when you actually calibrate. Especially if you're using apple or new LCD displays. Contrast and brightness is always way off out of the box. Give it time.
