i'm an old skater that hates NIKE. I will always hate NIKE. They don't belong in skateboarding. Skateboarding is not a sport, its an self expression. Skateboarding is not supposed to have a dollar sign on it. I'm just surprised how things have changed so much. Its like people are won't go against the grind. People are scared about what people will think of them. Nike doesn't own the streets. Ask Natas. Ask McGill. Ask Hawk. Ask Powell. Ask anyone that helped shape the world of skating.
- Are those guys on this board too? Is one of them hedge?locustsloth
- I hung out with Tony Hawk yesterdayukit
- Natas is the CD of Quiksilver. I don't know if you've heard of it, it's a really small company, unlike Nikelagwagon73

it's won't go against the GRAIN.
and everything has a dollar / euro / pound sign near it...

And Tony Hawk hasn't sold out? Do you even have a clue as to who owns the majority of the skate brands out there today?

thats my point. skaters don't own skateboarding any more. that's what i've been trying to say. thats why i said nike is one example of skateboarding being taken away.....
- it's like saying that most vineyards aren't owned by locals anymore.
which is true too.omgitsacamera

No, you're only singling out Nike. You haven't mentioned anything about other companies at all. You're saying Nike is the root of all evil which is far from the truth.
You're one of these typical "core" skaters who is stuck in the past and can't evolve with the industry. If all of the companies had the same attitude as you skateboarding would cease to exist today.

thank you for calling me a core skater. you need to respect the legends of skateboarding. no hard feelings towards you 2cents. if you skate, awesome. i would to skate some time. if not, why are you so pissed off about someone taking up for skateboarding any way?

I have no problem with people sticking up for skateboarding. I'm all for it. You're just going about it the wrong way.
I've worked in the industry, I know how it works from the inside and from a business sense. My problem is when people like you spout shit and cry about how it used to be, and how skating has sold out, and how big companies are ruining the culture.
If you don't like it, stop skating. The reality is that when you go out and buy your deck, you're more than likely coating the pockets of some corporation.

i work in the industry too. I've seen friends close shops because some mall store took their biz. I've seen shop owners hang NIKE signs in the front window in order to get a kickback. Look at CCS. Look at their center fold. The first shoes are Nikes. On the cover of CCS, Nikes are first. Now you tell me where the hell was NIKE 10 years ago? They couldn't give two shits about the culture.
- omgitsacamera0
Seriously, why do you have to single out Nike?
- ********0
and don't forgot, all the core skaters that were called skater fags, helped pave the roads for today skaters that only care about what nikes they are wearing. skateboarding use to mean something. an unwritten rule. Now its a product.

Wait guys, i figured it out. Toyfreaker, you should actually be complaining in this thread:

Sounds like it's at the root of all of the "true" skate culture's problems
BTW, say hi to hedge for me while you're there

no matter what i say, its only my POV. everyone has one. I guess not here.

So is the business TF. You can't just blame Nike for that. If you're faced with selling your company for 50-100 mil are you going to turn it down? I highly doubt it. If some game company comes and offers you buckets full of money to use your name are you going to turn it down?
They guys who shunned the evolution because they are so "core" are the ones now who are bankrupt and bitch about how they got fucked over. I have no sympathy for them.
