I stayed at Hotel La Serre on Rue Cler.
"We don't have big beds or big bathtubs, we got rid of those in the French Revolution."
Small hotel, nice walking distance to Eiffel Tower etc. Right by Ecole Militarire. A little crazy, esp. the housemaid, and they had like these 10 commandments on how to stay at the Hotel. But I liked it.

Funny, I was just watching the movie Hostel the other night. Hope your stay is nothing like that.

Sounds like a movie I should stay away from... untill I come back

i've stayed there a couple of times, small rooms, nice people, not very expensive ( +/- 100 euros a night for two people) and most importantly, very close to the jardin du luxembourg

I just stayed here last month: http://www.hoteledouard6.com/. It's a decent place on the edge of the latin quarter with a metro station right out front.

Paris is awesome, one of my favourite cities. Just try and stay somewhere reasonably central with a nearby metro, I've stayed in everything from hostels to 5 star places and they're always pretty pokey so don't expect anything too big. Buy a good city guide, don't eat anywhere with an English version of the menu (or pictures) and swing by Palais de Tokyo, always something cool going on there. And visit La Defence, it's completely different to the rest of the city.
