Technically OS9 was pretty dated by its end, however UI wise is had some pretty awesome things going on, the whole spatial file browsing worked really well for visual types.

next to my main machine i have a g4 with os9 wich is sporadically active. i kept working with os9 very long beyond the first release of osx and also miss it. although i got used to osx it still feels like regress. it's true that it kept one busy maintaining it, but for my part it was not too bad because i got payed for that as i was sort of system admin in the middle 90s. my very first mac-driven computer: umax clone, 13 years old, still running today under mac os 7.6, still firing up photoshop faster than any other ever!

I have a G3 in my loft that still has OS9 on and crucially the really great version of Illustrator (8? 7? can't recall) that had the really very excellent Kai's Vector effects which did perfect, easy to control 3d and extrusion in a way that no version of Illustrator has ever been able to match.
I think I might bring that thing back in and use it for 3d vector. I fuckn HATE trying to handle 3d in Illy CS.
- oh I used to love those KPT ps plugins, and when vector effects came out i peed myselfacescence
- ooh, and bryce and poseracescence
- I still use Poser to create basic forms to trace off and build people artworks on.Spookytim
- i still use bryce to make transparent jelly blobs for illustrations.invisiblechamber
- Kai's Vector effects where great, you could produce some crazy shit with it. :)********

Norton, that did save my life a couple of times, if I remember rightly.
There was that one time when I pissed off this Hacker on Hotline, remember Hotline, he threatened to hack the living shit out of me. Anyway, 1 month past, and he did just that, my computer crashed and I lost all my work, he also trash the operating system so I could not recover my work, when I did get my mac running again I find out my web site has also been hacked, and every single gif, jpg was corrupt, bastard. Norton could not help me that time.
