Is pretty cool. I stopped there this weekend for lunch on a trip to points west of Bar Harbor.
Is there a design community there? Is it colder than Boston?

Pretty damn cold in the winter, but it is a beautiful state. I'm south of it in Mass.

You slimy fucker! How dare you go to Portland, ME, way out in the middle of nowhere, and you don't even call madirish?
Very bad forum bro' behavior is all I have to say. Very, very churlish.
Just for that, you can't have a rub or a squeeze, or even a mere glimpse-down-the-sweater.
- wow! does it help that I'm not a bro?! AND I wasn't staying in Portland..just going way way north. :/monkeyshine
- i knew you were not a 'bro' :)
where in boston do you live? south end?madirish - nor am I a slimy bastard! :) I wish I could afford the South End! I live in West Roxburymonkeyshine

I am happy to hear this monkeyshine! Let's get a little straight-
- Maine rules hard
- this weekend was epic!!!
- where west of the island did you go?
- where in Portland did you eat?

I thought you might appreciate a little East Coast Portland love. ;)
This past weekend in Maine was amazing. I spent the weekend at a friend's house in Clifton, which is ridiculously far north (about 45 minutes from Bar Harbor).
In Portland I ate at a restaurant in an alley close to the water...I can't remember the name but think you'll know which alley. It was a little less touristy and I could anchor my dog right out front.
So...what's Portland like seriously? Do you go crazy as a creative there? I was once approached by a firm in ...I think Rockland? or Camden? Just curious if it's really worse than Boston in winter and what the scene is like.

I was just in portland. I'm thinking about moving there, design scene/industry or no since the real estate is so damn cheap.
- cannonball0
oh wait, wrong Portland, nevermind
- madirish0
I know Clifton! (and.... it isn't that far north at all, when you look at "The County"... ;)
Restaurant in alley on water.... J's Oyster? Port Hole? Flatbread Pizza?
Portland *seriously* rules! I love it to know end. I also love maine, but Portland is a great small city. It is not a typical city, but anyone who tries to force it to be is in the wrong from the onset, you know? I do not go crazy at all here, in fact the opposite. I have one account here of all of them, so I may be a little unique. I have my client base all over the US and EU.
Was the firm Ariel in Rockport? I too was offered a position there years ago. Actually was almost their CD. Cool shop, and I love Rockland/Rockport, but it was not the right time.
No offense, but Boston in the winter sucks ass. Cold, grey, dank, people bitter about life and no one smiles. Eff that. In Maine..... it's just different. :)
- yeah, the snow is two feet higher... :PGreedo
- PS: the mother-in-law lives in Cape E and i really like Portland, but you can see everything in like 4 hours...Greedo
- see everything in 4 hours? what do you mean? i still have not seen everything here. I live right by CapeE...madirish
- ...but glad i don't live in it.madirish
- ;)madirish
- ariel are pretty radjevad

ah you live in Maine but work remotely. I envy you! I would absolutely consider buying a house in that area (Portland, York, etc.).

Woo Hoo! Fellow Mainer’s, high five! Monkeyshine, could it have been PenBay Media out of Rockport? They do a lot of software application work for the government, education, etc. Solid work. I'm a Rockland-er myself, working for Village NetMedia. My turn to guess the restaurant. =) Gritty McDuff's has an alley entrance, pretty much right on the water. Excellent brews.
- grittys? could be.... but i hope not. would be a shame for her to have skunk beer. ;)madirish
- no, this place was nice. I had a great ahi tuna salad.monkeyshine
- Mims!

elahon- you work at PenBay? Cool. I watch you guys quite a bit to see what you are up to. Funny, in a previous position, I did a ton of what you guys do with a similar, albeit smaller agency.
I actually need to come up to Rockport in the next couple of weeks to pick something up I bought- we should have a pint!

Sounds like a pretty col place. All I remember of Portland when I lived in bawstin and visited in the late 90's was going to see Less Than Jake in a small club somehwere, getting shithoused with the band after the show, and making out with their bassplayer (girl k tnx)

hey elahon- know what happened to: www.arielcreative.com ?
- yeah, I was trying to look them up last night. Did they tank?monkeyshine
- i really don't think so, but i will ask a couple of people around here. they had a full client roster.madirish
- I don't think so either. But their website is definitely DOA. Maybe they're just having some server issues. Let's hope!
elahon - it has been down for 6 months now...madirish
