I have a client who wants to add a news section to their currently static site.
Presented a side bar on all pages/ with latest 5-10 articles. It would need to be quick and accessible for the client to update.
Is there anything out there 'like a news widget' that could be used without having to install something like Wordpress???

you could set-up a free external blog for them and then find an RSS reader that could display the headlines from the blogs auto-generated rss feed. am looking into what you could use now.

alrighty, you could use either an html solution or a flash based one., the benefits go either way depending on what you prefer to use.
the feed:
•forget blogger, the feed is an atom based one and i had issues all over the place with a similar brief.
• personally, id set up a wordpress blog for them and call that the 'back-end' of the site's news delivery. this will give you a blog, a decent rss feed, improved search engine results and hopefully some extra coin to install and theme-modificationdreamweaver extension:

and not forgetting:
the easiest method would be to use Adobe Contribute which would do away with the blog idea completely. they buy and download, you create them a log-in key and make that region the only editable section of the page. done.
